For the past 18 months I’ve been working on implementing a Workday solution. And at the same time I have moved house, and renovated the new house with my husband.
If you think project managing is difficult, try project managing a solution with a handful of SKUs for a globally dispersed medium-sized company that you are also product managing, whilst still managing a company’s digital workplace, including the day to day running of an intranet platform and a variety of other digital workplace tools, and then move house and plan a home and garden renovation. It’s been a huge year, that to be honest has flashed by in a complete blur… I literally said to my husband, “Do you realise we’ve only been out twice together in two years?”, which led me to then plan a date night.
Recruiters look for people with skills in time management, organisation, Microsoft tools… which are all vital for managing a project, but it’s the seemingly invisible skills that are the most important…
· Keeping a level head
· Remaining non-judgmental
· Having a thick skin
· Smiling – for you, and for others
· Remaining upbeat and positive
· Seeing the launch as an achievable goal – and celebrating the win!
Whatever projects you’re working on, whatever products you’re developing, whatever you are working on right now - remember there is a finish line and celebrate every win, no matter how small, along the way.
