If the shoe fits

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a weakness for shoes. I’ve been known for my shoes in a variety of ways, from “which ones are you wearing today?” to “we always hear when you’ve arrived.”

Shoes are so much more than a fashion statement. They invoke confidence. As Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”

Living the digital workplace life can be daunting. For anyone considering a career start or change within the industry, you will need to build the self-confidence to sell yourself as the expert you know you are. To prove to people why they should trust you, and why they should work with you. The first decade of Jovass.com was lived on the road, travelling to meet with companies all over the world. Living in hotels, sleeping in planes or trains, eating in restaurants, and long motorway drives. Then walking through the front door of businesses of all sizes, meeting with staff of all levels of experience, and ultimately engaging a room full of people.

It may be a little less intimidating now that the majority of introductions are performed online, but you may still need to meet with, or work onsite with clients. And a first impression really does count.

For me, the process of building self-confidence came with mentally preparing for the day. Starting the week before with planning, frequent contact with the client and booking travel. Then self-care the night before, soaking in a relaxing bath before laying out a chic top, stylish blazer, a pair of tailored jeans and statement shoes with a matching bag. “You put high heels on and you change.” - Manolo Blahnik.

“I firmly believe that with the right footwear one can rule the world.” I'm certainly no Bette Midler, and may not be ruling the world, but I do love what I do. I enjoy meeting new people, learning about the way they work, helping to find solutions to enhance their business, and learning as much as I can about new products and tools on the market.

I work from home a lot more these days, but I still have a gorgeous selection of shoes, just waiting their turn.
